Leaving no student behind
The Children’s Rehabilitation Department of the Loewenstein Rehabilitation Medical Center includes a school serving patients aged 3-18 that is operated under the supervision of Israel’s Ministry of Education. For children facing extended hospital stays, the school provides an opportunity to continue their education alongside their rehabilitation. While medical and therapeutic treatments focus on restoring physical and functional abilities, the department’s school offers a learning environment tailored to each patients’ unique needs. It helps maintain a routine, fosters curiosity beyond the daily challenges of illness, supports educational progress (a common concern for both children and parents) and encourages social interaction. The school’s multidisciplinary staff includes teachers, therapists and assistants, who offer personalized instruction in multiple languages, reflecting the diversity of Israeli society.
To expand support for outpatient care, four new study rooms are planned. These spaces require full renovation, and will be outfitted with accessible furniture, assistive technologies, and educational tools suited to a wide range of physical and cognitive needs. These upgraded learning environments will support recovery and better prepare children for the transition back to everyday life beyond the hospital.
