Renovation of the Orenstein Spinal Rehabilitation Department

The Jewish-American businessman, Henry Orenstein and his wife, Susie, who live in New Jersey, donated $1.25M for the renovation of the Spinal Rehabilitation Department of Loewenstein Rehabilitation Medical Center.

In preparation for Holocaust Remembrance Day, which will be celebrated this Thursday, the renovation of the Spinal Rehabilitation Department at Loewenstein Rehabilitation Medical Center, made possible by the donation, will be completed.

Orenstein (96), is a Holocaust survivor born in Hrubieszow, Poland. He is a significant donor to the State of Israel. In addition to his major contribution to Loewenstein, he has already established a nursing home for Holocaust survivors in Kiryat Ono, and recently donated millions of dollars toward the establishment of the Orenstein Project, which provides food for Holocaust survivors, the elderly, as well as youths and children at risk. The late Avraham Zilberstein from Tel Aviv, who died a month ago at the age of 105, was a close friend of Henry Orenstein, and he recommended to Orenstein to donate such a large sum to Loewenstein Rehabilitation Medical Center, which performs miracles and wonders in the field of rehabilitation.

Ornstein made his fortune in the toy industry in the US, where he emigrated after World War II. More than a hundred patents are registered under his name in various fields. In the early 1970s, he purchased from the Japanese company Camaro the franchise for marketing Transformer toys in the US, which over the years have become a global hit and inspired a series of blockbuster toys and movies.

The director of the Orenstein Project Association, Adv. Yonit Raviv-Zilberstein, noted that the completion of the renovation of the Spine Rehabilitation Department at Loewenstein Rehabilitation Medical Center on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day is particularly symbolic. Henry Orenstein, who experienced the horrors of the Holocaust, and his wife Susie work regularly to improve the situation of Holocaust survivors and of the needy in Israel. There is no doubt that the wonderful work done at the Loewenstein Hospital for the sick and wounded is in line with their vision.

The inauguration of the renovated rehabilitation department was held on June 20, 2019.

Danit Schechter, spokesperson for Loewenstein Rehabilitation Medical Center, said:

“We sincerely thank the donor. We also thank Clalit Health Fund, which bears the lion’s share of the total renovation costs of the hospital, amounting to tens of millions of shekel, and we wish to thank the hospital director, Prof. Amiram Catz, and the Loewenstein Hospital Friends Association, headed by Mr. Erez Meltzer and Ms. Shula Malik, who raised funds and closely guided the process of soliciting donations for the renovation of the department.
