RehaCom system for cognitive therapy

Background

At Loewenstein Rehabilitation Medical Center, patients are hospitalized after brain damage caused by brain injuries, stroke, tumors, multiple sclerosis, and the like. The brain damage may manifest as motor and cognitive impairments. Depending on the degree of injury and the characteristics of the patient, these disabilities make it difficult to carry out such daily activities as washing, dressing, eating, and leisure activities, and can impair the patients’ capacity to work and study.
The Medical Center provides a cognitive intervention through the Occupational Therapy Service, which has a worldwide reputation for developing assessment tools in the cognitive field. The intervention includes diagnosing such problems as memory difficulties, spatial orientation, attention, and concentration problems, and more, and devising personalized treatment plans for individual patients.

The Need

Many Loewenstein patients who suffer from cognitive impairment are not being treated with the aid of a computerized interactive system that enables cognitive practice in a range of areas and at a variety of levels, in an innovative and user-friendly way.

The Solution

RehaCom is a digital system designed to treat patients suffering from cognitive problems due to brain damage. Patients are provided with a special, convenient keyboard with a limited number of keys, which makes it easier to use by patients who also suffer from motor problems in the upper limbs. The software includes a variety of tasks for practicing basic and complex cognitive functions, precisely adapted to the patient’s cognitive state.
The software also allows assessment of the patient’s condition and adjustment of the level of the tasks using a battery of exercises in such areas as alertness, attention, memory, field of vision, and spatial orientation. Practice with the help of the software includes performing tasks, each one focused on a particular functional component, with a degree of difficulty that varies depending on the severity of the injury and the patient’s progress.
We need another RehaCom system, which will help us meet our obligation to make the system available to all the patients who need it, and to provide the most advanced, friendly, and effective medical care to all our patients.

The cost of the system: NIS 33,400
